what you think on grows (2009-04-27 15:23)

Mon, 27 Apr 2009 15:23:00 -0700
Today was the first full day back to work since last Monday. The temps here are still hovering around 90 degrees (32.2 C). This is about 30 degrees warmer than April is supposed to be. The building had no a/c on so it was stuffy and hard to breathe all day. I could open the office window but by the time afternoon rolled around, that wasn't much of a help. Another day of summer-like weather and then the rains will come and wash it all away. Good thing, too. My car is covered with pollen from the

Budget adoption date changed by City Council

Mon, 27 Apr 2009 14:59:00 -0700
City leaders gave themselves a little more breathing room to produce a completed annual budget. Instead of finishing the job by the third Monday of May, a new law approved by city councilors today allows the budget adoption to occur as late as the first Friday of June. “It just gives us flexibility,” said city Councilor Craig Minor, who heads the Ordinance Committee that recommended the new statute. Although the initial draft opened the door for the city to delay its spending plan only this year

Marc Bianchi is Her Space Holiday, and he’s coming to Poketo for “Bang! Bang! Draw!” this Friday. Make it out to see him live. You don’t want to miss it! Where did the name, Her Space Holiday come from? I originally started recording music on a little four track. Plugging away, making little one minute tunes here and there. The Defence Review

Tue, 21 Apr 2009 17:00:17 -0700
The Government has announced terms of reference for the Defence Review. I have a proposal which I think will result in a better Defence Force. It is: To abolish the Royal New Zealand Air Force as a seperate section of the the New Zealand Defence Force I propose this with a sense of sadness. I think it was an appallingly bad decision for Labour to unilaterally (it was not in their policy and they did not consult on it) abolish the strike capability. If National had won in 2002 then it w

And today, even more details are coming out about Kottkamp's "state business" -- and let's just say he might be taking a wee bit of advantage of Floridians and their tax dollars: Lt

It's certainly a funny day to be a gay Iowan. When you leave the Midwest, you'd better be prepared to renounce your allegiance to your home state, especially when you become a New Yorker, as I did about four years ago. City folk like to imagine Iowans all live on farms; that we subsist on pork, corn, and soybeans; that our "cities" deserve quotation marks; that we have no bookstores, vegetarians, or food coops to speak of. The first question a New Yorker may ask an Iowan transplant: Are you
